An unnamed tester of Anthropic’s next model says a request to fix one bug could lead it to identify the underlying class of problems and ask whether to fix those too. That example comes from The Information’s October 19 reporting, available in a Benzinga syndication. The tester described better reasoning and a better grasp of what the user wants.
Now the chatter has names attached: Opus 5.6, Fable 5.5, and, as of today, a reported Mythos 5.5 reference on Anthropic’s website. Anthropic has not announced either Opus 5.6 or Mythos 5.5 in the newsroom checked for this update.
Opus 5.6, or Something Else?
IAMag’s October 30 roundup describes claims about new Fable and Opus checkpoints, with selected SVG and 3D outputs circulating as examples. November 3 and November 10 are the speculative release dates being discussed. Opus 5.6 is a guessed name; The Information’s report does not identify its model.
If that behavior holds up, a coding agent could catch related defects and ask how far to take the fix. A mistaken guess about what you want could also mean more review work.
The reports may be describing the same model, different models, or different stages of testing. For now, the public Opus product remains 5.5.
The Mythos Clue
Crypto Briefing reported today that a hidden Mythos 5.5 reference appeared on Anthropic’s website. Checks of the Mythos page returned conflicting versions: 5.5 in text retrieval, 5.1 in the browser. The cause is unknown, and the reference comes without new pricing or access details.
Mythos already exists as a restricted offering. Anthropic describes Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 as the same underlying model with different safeguards and availability. Its October expansion of the Cyber Verification Program included Mythos 5.1 in the program’s access tiers.
That makes access part of the next Mythos story. A stronger model could be relevant to security teams, but the terms would determine who gets to use it and for which work. The website clue leaves that unanswered.
